A Caregiver's Perspective
By Karen Henderson
I found support groups too late. I had already experienced
years of frustration, anger, guilt and depression which may
have been avoided had I had someone else tell me what to watch
out for.
The key
to a good support group is being able to be honest about anything
you are feeling or experiencing with no fear of judgement from the
other members.
I found
that I preferred groups led by a professional social worker,
occupational therapist or nurse because I was able to have
my questions answered with a practical solution immediately. I have
been a guest speaker for numerous support groups over the years
and I always feel terrific afterwards because I know my experiences
and honesty have helped others.
